The 2014 ASA Bats Plus Turkey Shoot-Out softball tournament raised $500 for the Mickey Vernon Sports History Museum, which is located on the second floor at the Granite Run Mall.
The event was held recently at Camp Upland under much better weather conditions than the 2013 tourney, which became known as the "Cold Turkey Shoot-Out." Museum curator Jim Vankoski said the money will be used to help fund an exhibit that will open next month saluting many of the Delaware County sports figures who passed away in 2014.
Jack Cassidy's Irish Pub won the A Flight Turkey Shoot-Out championship, defeating Edge Hill Tavern (Montgomery County), 16-12, in the title game. Cassidy's Kevin Brown earned the most valuable player award.
In the B Flight, Ram's Head Tavern beat Stinger's Restaurant & Bar, 15-5, to earn the title. Bill Gallo of Ram's Head was the most valuable player.
Pennsylvania ASA District 6 commissioner Joe Organek credited umpires Jake Royal, Ken Sauer, Harry Edwards and Rich Wagner for their efforts in making the tournament a success.
