2-1-2 ... What do these numbers mean to Millennium Sunday Spring/Summer and Fall Softball Leagues?
As former Beatle George Harrison once said, "All Things Must Pass" which was the song and album title from his triple album that was recorded and released in 1970.
In fact, I still have that album and have kept it in pristine condition especially since my favorite Aunt bought it for me around Christmastime of that year at the old Gimbels department store in Upper Darby's 69th Street shopping district.
Well, "All Things Did Pass" on Sunday, June 21st (Father's Day) when the first rainout of the combination of Millennium Sunday Spring/Summer and Fall Softball Leagues in over two years occured.
It was an unbelievable streak of not just games played but weeks and even years where those leagues did not experience a rainout.
So here's what the numbers 2-1-2 represent to Millennium Sunday Softball.
2 - Years
1 - Month
2 - Days
That was the amount of time that went by without a rainout!
And, on top of that there were exactly 50 weeks of doubleheaders scheduled in that time span and with an average of 15 players on each teams roster and with taking in the 60 teams in the Spring/Summer and 40 teams in the Fall it is estimated that over 42,000 players took to the fields in Millennium Sunday Softball over 763 days without being rained out.
To quote Bobby Harshaw who was on our Burmont Inn II team of the late 90's that had an unprecedented Delaware County record 61 game winning streak that lasted over two seasons including playoffs.
"I'm glad the ?#@*&%! streak is over" and what he meant was the intensity of the games during that streak made it somewhat difficult to just play ball again without being concerned about the streak.
In a somewhat different kind of way, I'm glad the Millennium Sunday streak of not being rained out is over with too and it looks like with the recent rain it may be tough to get another streak going anytime soon.
