Daily Times Sports: Doubleheader at Father Nall gets Women's Softball Charity Classic started

It looks like the weather will be perfect for the second Women's Softball Charity Classic, which kicks off with a pair of games Friday night at Father Nall Field in Ridley.
Casey's and J.D. McGillicuddy's Drexel Hill open play at 7 p.m., with defending champ Appco's Sports World/Duke's Tavern taking on Bud's Cafe at 8:15 p.m.
The eight-team tournament continues Saturday and concludes with the championship round starting at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.
"That's the perfect field," said tournament director Brenda Smerigan. "We had seven teams and picked up an eighth Monday."
The purpose of the tournament, though, is the fight against cancer and tournament officials have come up with a variety of fundraising ideas to help in that endeavor. A 50-50 raffle will be held once again. T-shirts and hats will be on sale. The dunk tank has been replaced by a photo booth and there will also be a Chinese Auction. The proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Once again Wawa of Ridley will sponsor the always popular home run derby, which will take place after the conclusion of Saturday's last game, with is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The slip-n-slide will be back, too, which is a competition to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The tournament is a blind draw in which each team drew its seed out of a hat. For tournament purposes, Buck Frank Excavating is the top seed, followed by Christopher's Footprints, Dolan's Bar and P.T. Tub Repairs round out the field.
"It should be a great tournament," Smerigan said.
