Daily Times: Millennium Sunday Roundup - Sloan, Kerley big in clutch for Ducks
Go ahead and attach the "clutch" label to Brian Sloan and Pat Kerley. They certainly came through Sunday in the second game as J.D. McGillicuddy's Kirklyn Ducks swept The Stretch in the Millennium Sunday D Division quarterfinals.
Sloan drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and Kerley slammed the door on the 10-9 victory in Game 2 when he struck out the final batter in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Ducks took the opener, 20-4, behind an offense led by Steve Reiley (home run) and Sean Fitzgerald (three runs scored).

Ram's Head Tavern I 22-20, J.D. McGillicuddy's Brookline 18-3 >> Zach Tansey flexed his home-run muscles three times in the nightcap as Ram's Head I swept the best-of-3 D Division quarterfinals series.
Tansey smashed two three-run homers in the first inning and went deep again in the third inning to stake pitcher John Mosco with his second win of the day. Jamie Paglie's clutch dinger in the seventh inning was the difference in Game 1. He finished with four hits and five RBIs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pogue Mahone's Pub 11-5, Haggerty's Cafe 0-4 >> Bill Schalley slugged a walk-off home run in Game 2 to send Pogue Mahone's into the D Division semifinals.
Dan Santosusso, Dan Goldy and Dave Bush backed the shutout pitching of Dave Yarnell in the opener. Santosusso went 2-for-3. Goldy drilled a solo homer and Bush bashed a two-run shot to help end the game in five innings via the mercy rule.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manoa Post 13-14, Stanley Kup Inn 1-1 >> Sweeps and long balls were the order of the day in the Millennium League as Manoa Post cruised to a pair of easy wins to advance to the E Division semifinals.
D.J. Lauro blasted a homer in each game. Dave Herman and Buzz Wilson also went yard in the lidlifter. Justin Lauro (2-for-2) and Ray McGuire (2-for-2, three RBIs) kept the hot hitting going in Game 2.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic Coachwork@McLaren/Rothman Institute 15-16, Premier Orthopedics 4-5 >> John Roberts, Chris Kloepfer and Spencer Knox had the bats going for Classic in Game 1. Roberts had two hits and five RBIs. Kloepfer blasted a homer and drove in four runs, while Knox contributed two hits and three RBIs.
Pat Dix and Trey Neal took over to lead the offense in Game 2. Both had three hits and four RBIs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Double Edge Sports Grille 11-3-9, Stinger's Restaurant and Bar 4-16-15 >> Mike Pastella, Larry Rankin and Mike Moritz helped Stinger's bounce back from a loss in Game 1 to advance to the B Division semifinals.
Pastella belted two dingers while going 7-for-10. Rankin chipped in with six hits and Mortiz added four safeties in support of pitcher Andrew McMahon, who picked up the wins in Games 2 and 3.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bat's Plus/Kelly's Corner 11-16-12, Mudsharks 1-17-0 >> Pitcher William Gallo was nearly untouchable in Games 1 and 3 to help Bat's Plus/Kelly's Corner advance to the B Division semifinals. Gallo allowed one run in the opener and just one hit in the nightcap.
What happened in Game 2? Well, that wasn't reported, but it didn't matter because Bob Thomas (5-for-6) and Matt MacWilliams (7-for-8) had big days at the plate to make that a moot point.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R.P. McMurphy's Bar & Grille 7-7, Shanko Landscaping 4-5 >> Ivan Morales drove in five runs to help cut down the landscapers and send R.P. McMurphy's into the C Division semifinals.
Chris Stankiewicz and Josiah Krawiec were pretty good at the plate, too. Stankiewicz had a single, double, triple and five RBIs, while Krawiec went yard.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J.D. McGillicuddy's of Tinicum 29, Hunt's Raiders 23 >> In a pitching and defense optional game, it's a good thing J.D. McGillicuddy's had Tom McCarran and Erek Beirlien.
McCarran and Beirlien had a home run and three runs scored each as J.D. McGillicuddy's secured the third seed in the Rec Division playoffs. Ray Dalterio, Cory Gould, Keith Woodbury and Bill Beirlien, who was also the winning pitcher, all went 4-for-5 in the game. Not specified whether the score was from Game 1 or 2, and no score was reported for the other game.
