Daily Times: Millennium Sunday Roundup - Ducks twice frustrate Burgundy in doubleheader
Matt Rooney launched a sacrifice fly that went for a win in the first game, and Mike Shtofman's seventh inning double in the second game completed a comeback kind of day for the J.D. McGillicuddy's Kirklyn Ducks, as they defeated the Burgundy Lounge Punishers by scores of 19-18 and 18-17 Sunday in Millennium Softball League action.
Frank Lanni homered in that first game for the Ducks. Shtofman had three hits in the second game and Joe Kerley pitched just well enough to win twice.

In other Millennium Sunday games:
Manoa Post 17-14, J.D. McGillicuddy's Brookline 14-4 >> D.J. Lauro's three-run home run was the big hit to key the Postmen in Game 1. In the nightcap, Brian McGuire was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Bob Ferraro pitched in for a couple of mound victories.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progress Physical Therapy 14-5, Quality Roofing Supply 12-6 >> Nick Barbieri went 4-for-4 and Eddie Toy, James Gall and Danny Palumbo all had three hits as the PTers cruised past the Roofers.
In the nightcap, Jeff Anderson smacked a walk off single to create a Quality victory. Matt Shaw had two hits.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ram's Head Tavern 6-13, The Stretch 5-7 >> No details except for a reported 0-for-4 game by Chris Bagely of the Stretch. He may want to dispute that report.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MRC 16-7, Curtainwallers 0-6 >> Steve Gifford was in top mound form in pitching a shutout in the opener. Billy Myer had three hits, including a home run and five RBIs in that rout. Nick Varacalli added three hits, with two doubles and six RBIs.
The second game was much more of a nail-biter.
Joe Callahan had three hits and three RBIs and Adam Dienna had two solo home runs. But it came down to Bobby Lucchesi cracking a double for a walkoff win the seventh.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rothman Institute 15-9, Barnaby's Ridley/Moran Electric 14-5 >> Chris Kloepfer's double put two runners in scoring position, just in time for winning pitcher Mike Gwynn to help himself with a seventh-inning, game-winning hit in the first game for Rothman. Trey Neal had a three-run homer and Pat Dix had three hits to help the early cause.
Later on, Tom Wells had three hits and Trey Neal and Tom Reilly had two hits and three RBIs apiece for a sweep.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Premier Orthopedics 24-15, Marty Magee's Brawlers 17-3 >> All those runs but we were informed that Mike McGuire played great defense at the hot corner in Game 1. Thanks.
In Game 2, Sean Chase homered and Greg Watson had three extra-base hits. Winning pitcher in both games was Nadav Shaposhnick.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haggerty's Cafe 24, Galle Electric Bombers 21 >> This was the first game of a doubleheader with a second electric game not reported. In this one win for Haggerty's, Frank Mirigilano "beat the ball like it owed him money!" Apparently that means he hit for the cycle while going 5-for-5 with six RBIs, with a couple of homers along the way.
Matt Bankert went 3-for-3 with three ribs, while Nick Simon had four hits in support of winning pitcher Steve Powers.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gramlick Construction 19-18, Haggerty's Cafe Hungry Hippos 16-17 >> In the opener, Gramlick scored eight times in the top of the seventh inning to post a comeback win. Timmy Fallon went 3-for-3 with a walk and Andrew Abrams had a home run.
In the afternooncap, it was a tighter one yet. Haggerty's scored four times in the top of the seventh ... to fall short by one. For Gramlick, Dan Fallon homered a couple of times, Andrew Abrams had three triples and Bob Miller had three hits.
