Daily Times: Millennium Sunday Roundup - Marohn's shutout sets stage for AmSett sweep
AmSett's first season in the Millennium Summer Softball League got off to a winning start Sunday.
Casey Marohn tossed a shutout in the opener, a 10-0 win over J.T. Brewski's Pub, and AmSett rallied for a 14-9 win to complete the sweep.
A Jake Moore homer spurred a nine-run fourth inning in the opener. AmSett wasn't deterred by a 6-2 lead by Brewski's in Game 2. Danny Reiley went 3-for-4 and Pat Reiley added two hits to give Marohn another win.

In other Millennium Sunday games:
Busty's Tavern 7-18, Misfits 5-0 >> The misfit was between offense and the Misfits, who got no-hit by Franny Youst in Game 2. Youst helped his cause with a three-run homer. Jared Raper busted a three-run homer in the opener, and Fred Ziegler was 7-for-7 on the day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rothman Institute 10-1, Sawloon 7-6 >> Sean Steppke's two-run double in the fifth inning put Sawloon up for good and salvaged the back end of the day. Devyn McCarthy doubled twice and scored twice. Dino Karros, Eric Jackson and Tim Ryan had two hits each, and Eric Jackson pitched the win.
Dave Castor was the hero in the opener, a two-run triple breaking open a tie game. He had three hits and three RBIs. Bob McGrath had two hits and two RBIs, and Tim Ryan (different one, we're assuming) was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stephen's on State 10-10, Beacon Roofing Supply 9-11 >> In one of the most entertaining affairs of the day, Stephen's stated its case with a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, started by the Anthony SanFilippos (junior and senior). Will Simon went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and four runs scored. Anthony Amoroso and Ryan Whitmarsh contributed hits to the rally, Whitmarsh scoring the winning run.
Beacon turned the tables with a rally in the seventh, scoring the tying and winning runs with two outs each.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Casey's Ridley Park 11-8, Opdenaker Trash Removal 8-1 >> Casey's rallied from a 6-0 deficit in Game 1 to make a winner of Robert Biondy on the mound twice. The highlight recaps are still in early season form, though, since apparently it was all about the defense provided by outfielders Bill Vandergrift, Steve Okoorian and Danny Carroll and infielders Matt Mitchell and Chris Aaron.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Printz Beverage/Dueces Wild 12-19, Brick & Brew Bandits 3-3 >> The Deuces' pitchers were anything but wild, with Chuck Brooks winning the opener and Steve "Shakers" Ragan winning Game 2.
Johnny Lundell was 3-for-4 with a homer in the opener. Sammi Brieschaft had two hits, and Danny Fallan homered in Game 2. Bobby Brieschaft was 7-for-7 for the day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J.T Brewski's Deer 17-3, Phireballs 7-11 >> Mike Shtofman went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener for the Deer, and Sean Sensor collected six hits and five RBIs as the Deer split the double dip.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J.D. McGillicuddy's Tinicum Islanders 27-28, Marty Magee's Stars and Stripes 19-27 >> Vince Belissimo's "walk around for single" – which we're assuming might be a walk-off single – was certainly the only report-worthy detail in a doubleheader featuring 101 runs and nine words in the team names.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Secane Auto & Truck Works 12-12, Tumble Inn Wolfpack 9-2 >> Bob Sellers and Brad Buenadonna put in work on the hill to get wins. Chip Brown hit a grand slam in the opener, Sean McCaffrey belted a two-run homer and Greg Havink went 3-for-3 in the nightcap.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NCR 20-7, Marty Magee's Hops 13-15 >> A 13-run sixth inning did the trick in the opener for NRC. Joey Badolato, Tony Schreffler and Steve Laired were each 4-for-5, and Mike Badolato got the win. Marty Magee's used a five-spot in the first inning to claim the nightcap.
The Hops bounced back from a Game 1 loss with a nightcap win that started with Bruce Anglin's lead-off homer. Dennis Gleim also homered.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cuddy's Kirklyn 14-7, J.D. McGillicuddy's Brookline 4-17 >> In the Cuddy’s collision, Greg Winshel got the better of things with his pitching in Game 1.
The Kirklyn bats came alive in Game 2. Mike Baines went 4-for-4 with a homer, four runs scored and four RBIs. Bill Masterson had three hits, Craig Hermansen drove in four and launched a three-run homer and Frankie Magee (no relation to Marty) was the winning pitcher.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ball Hogz 4-11, Hunt's Raiders 10-8 >> The 'Hogz rallied from the Game 1 loss thanks to a 4-for-4 days from Jovanny Zavala and Alexander Marquez. Abdon Cruz supplied two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Anthony Rivera added three hits and two runs scored.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manoa Post 16, Milmont Republican Club 15 >> DJ Lauro and Don Lauro each went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, and Buzz Wilson collected four hits and four RBIs for Manoa in winning the opener. Results of Game 2 remain at large.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upland A.C. 19-20, Behmke Construction 4-18 >> The doubleheader in the Bats Plus Division was minus game details from Upland.
