Daily Times Millennium Sunday Roundup - Stephen's on State claims top playoff seed
The top seed in the Millennium Sunday Softball's League's A Division came down to the final game of the regular season and Stephen's on State broke out early to claim that position and earn a first-round playoff bye.
Stephen's scored nine runs in the second inning and rode that outburst to a 20-11 victory over Upland A.C. in the second game of a doubleheader. Upland took the opener, 20-18, to force a winner-take all showdown for the top seed.
Ten straight batters reached base in that second-inning eruption. Jason Aikens went 3-for-4 with two doubles and seven RBIs.
Dan Ryan was 3-for-5 with three two baggers and four RBIs.
Jimmy Jenkins went 4-for-5 with a double and two ribbies.
Dylan Ayers (4-for-5, triple, four RBIs) led the way for Upland in the opener. Ron Billick also was 4-for-5 while Dan Crowley Jr. went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Upland is the No. 4 seed in the playoffs due to tiebreakers.
