I'm posting this message as I have 2 67 SS427s and have had the usual problems with hood inserts. I have one that needed 2 studs replaced and was badly pitted. After sending it to 2 chrome shops I sent it to AIH in Iowa. They had it for about year and when finished I paid a little over $1,000.00 plus other cost I previously had so I had about $1.300.00 in it. The job they did was good but still had pit marks between the fins but they were covered up in the painting process.I have another one that needs almost the same work but was holding off sending it out until I was decided how I was going to move forward with the restoration. I'm glad I did as I purchased one the new repop inserts that was on ebay. There's another one on ebay now with 87 followers so I'm sure that some of you are watching.
Last night on my way to Carlisle I stopped at the shop that has the repops and saw the one that's on ebay. I'm not an expert but I can tell you it is perfect and beats any of the replated inserts that I've seen. It's even a little nicer than the one I bought from him as they are using a different plater.
I know $1,500.00 is a lot of money but it's better than trying to get an old one redone and not being happy with the results.
I can talk to the shop and see if he could do better on the price if we gave him some volume as he now does them one at a time at present. Let me know if you are interested. You can send me a PM for my phone #
I have the insert with me at Carlisle if you want to see it.
