Everyone seems to go back to there first car for a restoration project or a patina driver to remind us of our youth. the best days of our lives as we set out into the world. Yesterday my girlfriend and I headed to Chicago for a 75 Monte Carlo. Her first car out of school, i take every word with a grain of salt when it comes to rust free and nice paint that way there will be no disappointment when i realize the car is a patched up mess. I always make sure when going on a long trip i always have a back up plan. So here it goes The trip took us to Chicago for the Monte The back up was a add for a 68 impala drop top with no rust and all ( nu panoels ) spelled that way in the add pics did not do it any justice so we looked it up got there before he did and it was sitting on a roll back Quarter panels flopping in the breeze entirely in primer completely gutted. What a pile i thought, After about 10 minutes of inspection I found the gold mine two nos fenders and it gets better 2 nos full Gm quarters barely hanging on by several spot welds. I was speechless Sara my girlfriend asked me if I was ok. I was in awe. The rest of the car was 100% rust free except for the inner structure for the rear Quarters hence the flopping in the breeze. Finally the guy showed up and he had really no clue what he had so we made a deal and loaded the car up. The parts on the car have never been painted only primed from the out side the original part number labels were still attached inside and factory E coat untouched. My family has always been one for finding treasures and showing them off to each other. As i drove home all I could think of was i wish my dad was still alive so i could here him say Quote Al Bundy wins one again. This one is for you Dad I miss you every day .
