Front Springs

Hi everyone. I have a bit of a dilemma with my front suspension. Car has had a body off total restoration and during the rebuild process all suspension was replaced with new parts. I built the chassis using moog #6194 coils in the front as that is what their catalog specified for a convertible small block car. However, once the final assembly was completed, the car sits high in the front end and is extremely stiff almost as though big block springs were installed. Can anyone help with a part number to solution this problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This front spring is an issue that none of the spring manufacturers will address head on.

The MOOG springs are toooo stiff.

I think the main reason is that they use 0.640" or 0.670" wire rather than 0.614" wire that GM used (in my case).

But you can tell the problem by the numbers if you look into it.

Moog lists the correct free high and installed height BUT the installed hight is measured with 1724 lbs load rather than the original of 1580 lbs. WHY???

Also the spring rates are higher (duh) than the original springs. Moog lists 358 for the 6194 springs vs about 290 on the originals (in my case).

The 6192 which are the "softest" that MOOG has are still terrible.

I'm planning to put my old ones back in very soon.

Thanks for the information/analysis, Craig. I also decided to re-use original springs over new springs due to the issues described above that I' ve both personally seen and on the internet..

For what it's worth every set of front springs I've ever put in an Impala ALWAYS makes the front end sit too high. Maybe supply a spring manufacturer with the Chev specs and have them custom made?

6322 is the part # for 69 impala with 427. So your # shouldn't be for big block.What year is the car and with or without A/C. I can look up using my sources in the morning.
