Just as info was the 1961 SS a dealer installed option or did the factory install the emblems ETC?

It sure is easy to document a 61 SS. I think the first thing is the build date. They where only available very late in the 61 model year. From there on it all about power train, casting dates fuel line size etc. etc, but for me the first thing is the build date. I do not think a 61 SS 409 correct block even exist anymore. Why do you have one or are you thinking of buying one.? Which ever way good luck Morley

The build date may exclude a car from being a real SS, but cannot verify one as being real.Everything mentioned can and probably has been faked. Paperwork and owner history are what is needed. Without that you have a car with unproven pedigree. At the Supercar Registry someone has purchased a "possible" COPO Camaro. The only thing that excludes it from being a real one is one single piercing on the firewall that was done at the factory for a cowl induction hood. One extra hole= possible copo. No hole = not a copo.
