I recently had conversations with Don Keefe of the National Impala Association about some of my concerns of the upcoming convention in Dayton in July (and similar concerns of others in this forum). I feel his response is worth reading. So I ask two questions: 1)-is there a way to "transfer" his email (sent to me) to all on board here; and 2)-do you feel it is OK to do so? I have Don K's OK without hesitation to pass it along. His content has been positive, professional, and informative.
Thanks for checking in- I appreciate your coming to me directly instead of relying on opinions or speculation.
The Judged classes are each unique in their requirements, yet each accurately cater to the vehicles in question. Obviously, a full Pro-Touring-chassised '68 Impala with an LS3 and six-peed is not going to be judged by the same criteria as a body-off restored Z24 with the correct hose clamps and chalk marks.
The modified classes stress preparation, quality of finishes, engineering and overall execution, as opposed to correctness, which is not a relevant criterion to the vehicle in question. The stock Judged classes will stress originality and/or correctness.
Normally, the People's Choice classes are for the less-serious restorations, the driver-quality vehicles and those cars that were driven to the event. Rather than rely on any set rules, this is a simple vote class that will be broken up by model year, or in the case of 1971 and later cars, by generation. This gives everyone an opportunity to compete for a trophy. The idea of registering for both Judged and People's Choice is akin to a professional athlete competing in an amateur class. We tend to let the Judged cars compete to a standard, rather than each other, while the People's Choice classes are just what the name implies.
As for the show parking, the field is divided into People's Choice and Judged areas. Both will be prominently displayed and no additional fees are associated with the show display.
Thanks!

Thanks for posting Don Keefe's letter for me/us! I realize that some guys on this forum are already familiar with the NIA convention guidelines, but it's all new to me...and I know there were concerns from some of the members here.
Thanks again. Bill
PS-are you coming to the Dayton convention from Australia?!
Bill, me coming over for the Dayton convention is a really neat idea of yours ... Here's a neat idea of mine, you shout the airfare and I'll be on your door-step quicker than you can blink ... Cheers Glenn
Hi Bill, can you just cut and paste the text from the email to a post?Denis 1967 Impala SS Sport Coupe 396/TH400/12 bolt. Marina Blue (South Gate built) 1967 Impala SS Convertible 327/TH400/12 bolt. Ermine White (St. Louis built)
Not sure how to do the "cut and paste" sequence for this post. But I was able to transfer the letter to my desktop. However, the post would not recognize the document when I tried to attach it..."invalid format". I'm "listening" to any suggestions/comments.
