Manual Trans Luberication What a Mystery

I want to change the 55 year old oil in my T-10 in my 63 Buick LeSabre. So what do I use I have been all over the net asking all the experts and I am so confused. I think I may have to go to the wrecking yard and start to drain the oil from all the old trannies. That may the only solution. I know about the GL-4 business, but what I find is synthetic. Maybe just a big rubber band. What the heck is the correct answer??????

You can use any brand 80- 90 w gear oil.... from most autoparts stores, I think I used stay- lube brand. good luck

My brother rebuilt a 1969 M20 Muncie and filled it with synthetic and it shifted poorly. He drained it and refilled with good ol' dinosaur goop and it shifts great.

This is what he used when the synthetic failed:

All of the Camaro guys he knows use this stuff and it works well for them. It's available on eBay.

Come on Morley. Old fashion is the answer. Good old 80-90 gear oil is for everyday use. 90-140 is for extreme use and warm weather. Check what You drained out. NICK L72

So Nick can you use synthetic oil? Even if it has the GL4 rating.? The Sta Lube product seems to be the only thing that is not synthetic and has the GL4 rating. Apparently all the transmission lube is now GL5 or GL6 --that is the stuff that destroys the "yellow metal" --brass and copper used in these Muncie , T10 and Super T10 transmissions. The StaLube GL4 non synthetic is not allowed into Canada. ( I thought you guys where building the wall on the southern border) Or maybe we are building the wall. This is pissing me off . We do not need walls, I just want to buy some tranny lube. that will not destroy my transmission.

Just use regular 80w90 gear oil. You are not supposed to use Synthetic in a Muncie or T-10. It will tear up the brass rings and also will cause the brass rings to break.
