fuel sending unit

I have a 1968 SS427/425 would like to know if a sending unit from a 67 0r 69 will work. have tried several companies (year one ) etc.. No one has a listing for a 1968.,Thanks for the help

I have an extra original canister type sending unit if you can use it.

So,are you thinking the standard float sending unit wont work? Does it cause gauge issues?

That engine requires a single line 3/8" sender, repros are all over Ebay including stainless steel ones.Here is a NOS one but make sure it's 3/8" Don S

I'm a little confused. I had my '68 Z24 sending unit repaired by Shaun Price. The assembly is the (desirable) cartridge type...not the cheap float assemblies. Did GM 'changeover' to floats as replacements?

I have replaced two original units. Both the canister type. I have not seen a new canister type sold anywhere. The new style float units will work.

I'm hoping the standard float unit will work. I recently bought a NOS GM unit.

Hey Tim,

The swing arm floats are fine as long as it's an older legitimate GM unit.

As much as the canister style sending units are sought after, they're very prone to problems with the float getting stuck in the canister. Especially if you are running today's garbage oxygenated fuel. This could be the reason GM only used this design for three years and then replaced them with the swing arm style.

I wouldn't worry about a bouncy needle on the gauge with the swing arm style either. This hasn't been much of a problem on any of the cars I've had them in.
