On 4 July 2018 Australia and the United States of America will celebrate the first 100 Years of Mateship.
The Battle of Hamel on the 4 July 1918 was a successful attack by Australian Army and US Army infantry, supported by British tanks, against German positions in and around the town of Le Hamel … this date marks the start of 100 years of collaboration and mateship between the United States and Australia … Since that day, which helped turn the tide of the First World War, Australian and American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and women have served alongside one another in every major conflict … To this day US marines are stationed in Darwin in Australia’s north, and our servicemen and women are working together in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria
Today on the 4th of July 2018, the Men, Women, Children and government of Australia are celebrating the 4th of July, symbolic of the mutual respect and friendly collaboration with the United States for the last 100 years
Cheers to you too Glenn. I was not aware of that. Having served a career in the USAF I had opportunity to work and hang out with some Aussie soldiers from time to time and hold them in high regard. We make a great team!!
