Where did Everyone Go?

Someone said, "they moved to facebook". Ruin a good forum for knowledge and related to us collectors of the Greatest Cars to be made. Now My Impala is being restored there is no one to see it or be interested in it.A $100,000.00 1 owner car with all the paperwork. Mark might as well shut it down, like the Impala Club organization. I used to be a member of it Many years ago. There are a lot of Impalas and B-body cars to be members. Collect some dues and get someone to help run it. It is a Joke. 2 issues a Year and Millions of pictures to be seen. I will show My car when it is done at the shows I go to. Come on Guys and Girls. NICK L72

I haven’t owned the car for 2-3 years or so. The new owner whom purchased it from me sold it today as you know. Trust me when I say bad luck didn’t follow me in any way on this car. In fact it was just the opposite. It was a pleasure to own despite all the bad press. I am just a simple guy who still loves this car and can only hope new discovery will be obtained one day to definitely flip the cards face up and the truth be revealed about this car no matter what the truth tells. For me it was and still is a possibility. That’s what I loved about the car. That being the story it came with and of course the beautiful restoration. It’s a car with a story. That’s pretty cool to me.

Hahaha.... That was fun times ! Ivan, ruffled a lot of feathers on this board, got a little crazy at times that’s for sure. I like my vehicles Stock I admit that, It was one of the reasons I came on the site and enjoyed the discussions on original parts a lot of very knowledgeable people here. Reproducing the four-speed boots was a big deal.... that I took advantage of and The efforts from others producing the air cleaner decals hope to see soon. And there’s always room on here for guys doing modified vehicles I ’m sure we all can appreciate that, I know I do... also remember I know
Lynn has all the original photos at Impala archives I believe they are on Photobucket ....

I like this site better. Everyone can get the information They need. It is the forum for Chevy talk, and those that have the fortune to own an SS427 Impala, and SS Impalas. 14,000,000 Impalas sold since 1958 and still made, with the Greatest Impala SS427 in 1969. Will ALWAYS be interested in your car and effort you are dedicating. Doing a frame off on my 69 Kingswood as we speak in Arizona. Been busy working at work and my Harleys as the bike season is finally here in N.J.
Appreciate your pictures of work and progress, and having done this dance a couple of times, the money is worth the satisfaction to see these gems up and running once again! Impala and Biscaynes are next on my list for summer!

I'm still here. I don't post or respond much, hardly at all. But I still check the activity and love seeing other projects getting done. Life happens and things get set aside or put off for another day. Facebook and other sites provide additional enthusiasm for some, as well as more like minded connections for the group of SS-427 fans. Your project is coming along nicely and I as well as many others will look forward to seeing the end result.

Found a local guy, $6,000 to finish sand, prime, paint and 2 coats of clear. Should be done by next weekend. Cordovan Maroon.

That sounds reasonable. It better look like one though. Paint is the most important detail of a car. I could have done like these new folks do and leave the rust on the roof and patch My fenders. That is what My car had become after after all the years. The problem was they had stopped making Le-mans blue in spray cans. They put a lot of silver in it. My screen saver is a picture of My 69 L72 Impala after the 69 Daytona run. Back to that day when She is done. NICK L72

Not trying to be negative , but like you said Nick Paint is an important detail , but the paint will not look good unless the body prep was done properly . Only a good body man can make a painter look good . I hope everyone had a great Easter .

True John. I meant after My body work is done, which looks great. This shiny paint is going to look like it was in the rain. My paint was excellent when the lacquer came from the factory. Had a fabulous Easter with all the Family. Hope All did. NICK L72

I can think of several reasons.
Our beloved Impalas are and always have been a niche market and that niche grows smaller every year.
And maybe, like me, some are fed up with the "Factory original is the only way." attitude this forum has morphed into; The "I can be more anal than you (How much overspray under the dash?)." attitude.
Bulletin: Late 60's Impalas are not Shelby Mustangs or MoPar Hemis or big block Camaros and will never appreciate in value like them.
And Nick, although you may have a hundred grand spent (not invested) on your '69 L72, you'll be lucky to get $40K for it on its best day.

That is right. Even though My L72 is a 1 owner car and rare, I will do it the way I want. Headers, aluminum Anson wheels, black wall Cooper tires, solid high lift cam, and roller rockers, with tall Chevrolet chrome valve covers and custom made stainless exhaust out the back. HEI will fire the engine with stock original 11 to 1 pistons and bore. It is a street car not a concourse trophy winning car. Not a frame off, because I did not have to do that. Do not get Me wrong, I do not have a problem with others wanting a perfect car. That is not what I remember being a 60's and 70's Chevrolet technician.My car was not perfect off the assembly line, like so many others. I checked them in and then filled in the new car check sheet. My bucket seat corners were rippled, but that did not bother Me. The engine had 1 quart of oil in it, but it ran because of the solid lifters. I got an unconditional warranty on the engine from GM and My dealer. It burned oil and was reringed at 30,000 miles. I dropped 2 valves, seperate runs, but they replaced them. Fit and finish was perfect on My car, with a perfect paint job. That is the way it will be again, but not laquer. I will get more than 40K if the right buyer sees the value. NICK L72

Good Mike. I have all the parts but running gear is not in it. My Son is going to fabricate My exhaust pipes out of stainless. He use to work for PYPES Exhaust installing and fabricating and also selling. You need to get painted and then install the moldings and emblems, then install the fenders. A lot of work ahead. I installed an adjustable panhard to center the rear and a sway bar. Considering boxing in the links. Pictures when it is painted. NICK L72

I'll have to get up to Your place. 1 hour away on the 611, 11 miles above Doylestown. I found it on Ebay same as My sway bar. I know how to bid to get a good price. A lot of nice vendors on Ebay. Looks like You also have air bags. What fuel system are You running? I have My original 780 and a duel feed and a 760. I need a price to compare for painting. Most say it will cost $10,000.00 for a concourse paint job. The body work is done and primed. NICK L72

I’m installing the Holley Sniper EFI, well see how it goes. The air bags just go inside the coil spring, u can adjust them how you like. I have no idea about paint, wasn’t planning on doing this much, it just happened!

Yeah, still have a lot to do. I installed UMI boxed rear control arms, they fit great. I’m in the Lehigh valley, I see your in eastern pa too.
