Warning! This car cannot be restored. I looked at it 2 years ago. EVERYTHING is rotted, There is no floor, only whats left of the rug. The whole convertible mechanism is rotted. This car was outside for 2 years with no cover. The tach and gauges, radio were soaked, 2" of water in the console. It has a 71 402 truck engine, There are rot holes on the hood and the gills are so pitted you cant restore them.

With all due respect, Don has restored a half dozen of these cars. If he looked at it hard and said it's too far gone I believe him. He is an extremely competent restore of 68's, in particular SS427's.

Hi Glenn. To continue about this car, so much of the left quarter panel was gone, you can reach inside the trunk, which was filled with junk on what was left of the trunk pan. Nothing left to the back seat. The hood has 2 chrome pins drilled near the center. When I looked at it back then at a former gas station lot, that owner wanted $20,000. I spent over an hour inspecting the car. When finished, I told the gas station guy who I was and that I own 5 of these cars, explained to him I see about $7000 parts value because the hood, transmission and rear end are all that is salvageable being generous at that. It's too bad about this car. Black with red interior is so rare in the late 60's and must have been beautiful in it's day. Don S

I can see someone buying it for less than what this guy wants & pulling what he can off the car including the Trim Tag & VIN Tag, and putting them back on another convertible.

Don, good helpful advise, and a good warning to anyone interested in the vehicle ... It would be nice to see it resurrected but just from the photos it looks like one to be avoided ... Cheers Glenn

No pictures or mention of the Z24 hood, a big piece of the puzzle when restoring these cars.

He sent me two pictures of the hood. It is correct. The front grill is not blacked out?

Certainly a good one to restore. Convertible with good colors. The 402 is a bummer but 321 castings are out there to do it right.
