The scene where all the dignitaries were on the stage was being filmed when we got off work one day. I was in downtown Detroit working on the renovation of the 33 story Guardian Building which is only a couple blocks from where they had the stage set up. Any way, we're getting out off work one day, and they're filming this scene. The only problem is we can't get to the parking structure where we're parked, so they tell us just to walk by in the background. If watch that scene you can actually see the construction workers walking by in the background.
The commercial heating & cooling company I was working for at the time was buying us all monthly parking passes to park in this one particular parking structure, and we get there one morning, and they're telling everybody we have to park on floor 4 or higher because the first 3 floors were set up to shoot the parking structure scene that day, so when we were driving through the parking structure that morning we were actually driving through the set they already had set up overnight.
Not sure where the rural outdoor scenes were shot, but it sure looked like rural Michigan.
We went and saw the G.I. Joe movie recently and that movie was excellent. Come to think of it with spring refusing to get here, and the weather remaining lousy we've seen a lot of movies either on DVD or at the theatre lately, G.I. Joe, Snitch, Bullet to the Head, Parker, the new Wizard of Oz movie which was also filmed in Michigan, Last Stand, The Bachorlette, Killing Them Softly, Red Dawn, Lincoln, Skyfall, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, The Man with the Iron Fists, Hobbit, and I'm sure I'm missing a few, but you get the idea. Did I mention I love RedBox? How can you beat a new release DVD for a dollar?
