They might be able to save the Crapwagon 2.0. Make a kit to get rid of the sponsons and cold air box to nowhere. The back fenders have proven not to do the job they were put there to do. I think they should go, but they may actually reduce drag, I don't know. The reduction in drag would make a major difference on the ovals. That cold air box is both useless and unnecessary, but also acts like a big parachute. Everybody wanted the turbo's back so the cars would accelerate faster on the road courses, but they didn't give them enough boost to make a difference. Its all about money. Honda says were can turn it up, but the engines won't last as long so the leases would cost more. The owners are killing the sport because they don't want to spend money. Quite a few of them would still be using the old cars if left up to them. I'm tired of seeing the same race 8 or 9 years in a row. Right now, that looks to be the owners' plan. The only way I see the 500 returning to its glory is as a stand alone race with its own set of rules like before. |
