and I travel back 32 years.......................
..........in the piece I read it said he was from Wisconsin Rapids, in '82, I was dating this girl, & we went on a group outing to camp out & tube down some river, the campground was in Wisconsin Rapids. A fun little deal, off the beaten path that had seen better days, but what left an impression on me was that there were the remeains of an old dirt track there, I mean, they might still might have been running cars there in the '80s, actual bleachers, there were a couple old hulks of '50s racecars still there, painted up goofy for little kids to climb on & stuff, with some teeter-totters & stuff, think "playground-at-the-drive in, that type of vibe. Now, I'm trying to be an attentive new boyfriend ("do I wanna go back to the trailer & have sex again??.....oh,....alll RIGHT, if you insist....") but I was fascinated in this chunk of history I had bumbled into. When I got a computer, and researching things became easy, I tried like hell to find out something about this odd litttle place from a bygone era, with no success, but the hopeless romantic can only wonder, Dick Trickle had to have raced this thing, yes?? how many starry Wisconsin nites did a young & happy man get to hoist a little gold cup, probably cheaper than the dinner he ate that nite, but that didn't matter much in a simpler era?? Buried deep in the dresser is a #90 Helig-Meyer Dick Trickle shirt, think I better get serious about the diet, I'd like to squeeze into it for the races one time this summer, so long Dick, you were pretty awesome........
