Just finished reading the book on Jo Ramirez...very long time F1 crew chief...team leader....ect. Amazing career and story.

Didnt know how many F1 greats he was with over the years...starting with Tyrell and through the Mclaren years. He saw the very worst of F1 from the crashes to what sounded like a nutcase Ron Dennis (guy sounded very petty alot of the time)who ran Mclaren....to the best of times later on.

His stories of Aryton,Prost,Lauda,Mansell and others were worth the price of the book. And how he talked with Ronnie Petterson after his bad crash but that Ronnie Peterson was fine...joking with them....then a few hours later died from his leg injuries.

Said with a perfect car Prost was the best ever...but give them a car that was abit off and Senna was the best...or in rain. He said Senna drove them nuts with how great he was at Q'ing. He said it was to bad Senna died as him and MShoe would have been something to watch go at it. Also Senna tested a CART car but decided to stay in F1.

I was surprised how Emmo behaved with his own team..sometimes never even trying to drive hard.

Then we got to the Andretti years which is the reason for this post. What he talked about I had read Al Jr say too...which pissed off Al at the time. It wasnt much he said but what he did say wasn't good.

Said Mike's heart was never in it...that he did whatever Dad wanted him to do instead of what he really loved. Said it was Mario selling Mike to everyone while Mike said..."whatever".

Where as Jo's time with Mario he said Mario still had pics of him(Mario) racing sprints in his suitcase after all these years. He said Mike did nothing to learn the whole system...to really understand he had the most golden chance in the world...to team with Senna.

Instead the minute practice was over Mike was flying back home....then showing up hours before the next practice all jet lagged. And it showed. He blamed MikaH for getting the practice time which was bull...that Mika went after the seat time seeing Mike was more interested in flying home instead of learning all he could. Ron Dennis even went as far as to let Mike/family have his house in France while the season was going on. Mike said no thanks and went home to Penn all the time.

And his driving style was all wrong...they'd watch him on the monitors and Aryton(who did try to help Mike) said look at him...every lap he has a different line in every corner. And he's tossing the car all over the place....far to aggressive.

Pretty good book....I've read both Jackie's books which were very good...Lauda's....AJ's...next up Mario's and Hunt's.
