I've spent a lot of time at various dirt tracks around Indiana. If they had set that track up loose this race would have been a mess. 30 cars for 150 laps it too much for a loose track. Would have been nothing but holes everywhere. They had to pack it in hard like they did or they wouldn't have run 3 laps at a time under green by 30 laps in. Eldora is notorious for setting up dry and hard anyway to keep the speeds down. Have even heard rumors that their insurance requires a certain setup and they are quick to rain out if there is too much moisture in the track. I had a conversation with a driver several years back about racing Silver Crown on the mile dirt at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. They are traveling over 150 MPH into the turns and he said the best way to get through is to tap the brake on entry to get the car sideways and then just stand on the throttle the entire corner. These guys are brave. I love dirt racing. |
