Michigan's on the west end of the eastern time zone. That's why I'll be watching a ball game say in Boston or New York, and it will pitch dark there, but still light in Michigan, and it'll be say 9:30 PM in both places. With Michigan being in the west end of the eastern time zone it's light out almost until 10 PM in the summer.
That was the Red Wings big gripe about being in the Western Conference of the NHL. They were constantly traveling out west and to west coast playing teams in time zones where the time was 2 to 3 hours difference. The NHL has finally moved the Red Wings back to the Eastern Conference starting this year.
