Last week was so amazing that it's sort of a blurr when I try to think about it. Hot August Nights began with a two day event up here at lake Tahoe with about 500 cars on display then on Monday the event moved to Reno for six days. For the guys that don't know, HAN is a celebration of American muscle cars but features pre-1974 muscle, custom, hot rod and restored stock American cars. The only foreign cars that are allowed are cars like the Cobra which is a foreign body with an American drivetrain. At the six venues in Reno 6500 cars were on display. I went Wed. Thurs & Fri. and still couldn't take it all in. There are several side events like the BJ auction, Big Boys Toy Store and a giant parts swap meet that's equivalent to the Hershey meet back east.I didn't go to the auction this year. In the past when it was the Silver auction a one day ticket was ten bucks and a five day ticket was about $25. This year with BJ running the auction it was $25 bucks a day. I had already hit sensory overload by Friday so I didn't attend any part of the auction. Actually each night when I came home I watched parts of the auction on Speed Channel. This year I concentrated taking pictures of early trucks. My brother-in-law back in Michigan is building three '34 Chevy pickups. He's restoring one as "stock", one as a hot rod and one as a "Rat Rod" and he wanted me to take pictures of any 30's pickup trucks I could find.
