the thing is, and to borrow a Hollywood term, is editing..........not the film but my writing. The first cut of the Blues Brothers that was turned in to Universal was almost 4 hours long. "Revenge", my sequel to my first countdown, began from a list of almost 35 films, cut down to 16.........and then, the first three reviews I wrote were EACH coming in over 150 words each longer than the first reviews, some pretty awesome jokes had to start getting thrown under the bus, as well as several things I REALLY hated having to cut at the last second ( a big shout-out to the Hound-meister, for loaning me a bunch of films, but I still had to chase some of these down thru bootleggers, which wasn't cheap, or easy) - my gal out in NY took almost a year to get me the Robert Culp gem 'Outrage'.... .....the driving around Chicago (which I'm pretty sure was Toronto) never mind the potholes, these things aren't a '72 Volkswagon, you don't just jump in it & turn the KEY, and what about driving under those semi-trailers, nice, like IDOT is gonna let these guys out with no spare-tire racks? stealing the Letterman-idea hit me on the 4th re-write, 'cause I just couldn't string the insults together right, the wife & I were in line at Home Goods, some idiot at the head of the line was fouling evrything up, I spontaineously said, "Boy,...wer'e having some fun..............NOW!", Dave-style, and by the time we got to the car, I'm scribbling shyte down on an old Burger King bag, shes used to this kind of behaviour, when Ideas come, ya gotta seize it, it'll be gone if you don't..... ......there was some stuff in there I liked, and I thought Burts "slowest man in the fastest sport" speech was actually kinda touching ( his character being based on the guy who was Sennas boss at the end of his career) Hope you check out the whole series (4 installements) and its predicessor (google Chicago Jons Racing list, or just search DROs archives) |
