That is on random as well as mandatory checks across the three national series. It's actually a very low number given the national average and age demographics in the garage. Everyone issued a NASCAR license has to take a mandatory test prior to being issued your license. From that point the random checks begin on crew members who work in the garage. On any given weekend the population of persons eligible for random testing is around 850; depending on how many Series are running that weekend. NASCAR will pull 5 or more from each series each week for a test. Most of the positives tend to come in Feb when teams bring in new folks some months they have no positives. Anyway when you consider that the national average for drug use is close to 9% and for the ages of 18-25 it is 21%. A rate less than one precent is good. NASCAR's policy also includes alcohol and since they don't report what the suspension was for some of those cases could be alcohol. |
