did I think I'd see a white man get elected to mayor in the City of Detroit. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 83% of Detroit's population is black, and right around 10% white. Of course the other 7% is made up of Latino, Asian, American Indian, etc. Last Tuesday the people of Detroit went out and voted a white guy to their new mayor. Not that this has anything to do with me because I live about a hour northeast of Detroit up into the start of thumb. The last mayor of Detroit was NBA great Dave Bing, but he decided not to seek re-election after his first term. The mayor before Dave Bing was Kwame Kilpatrick (and he's not Irish) is currently serving 30 years in federal prison for running an on going criminal enterprise while being the mayor of Detroit, and the rumor he's being investigated by the state police for having his stripper girlfriend murdered after his wife found out about her won't go away. The last white of Detroit, Roman Gribbs, left office December 31, 1973.
