I would go back to the pre-Chase rules except that I would give the winner even more points over 2nd than they were doing.

For example, here's a sample points system:

I would give the winner 200 points on that system rather than 185 in order to reward the winner for winning and allow someone to get hot and catch up or get hot and bury everyone else.
