Ok...I said IndyCar sucks, not Indy cars. There is a difference.
I used the word 'goofy' when talking about that ESPN channel. Should I have said fourth string or fifth string? Let's do the math. ABC broadcast TV = first string. ESPN 1 and ESPN 2 paid cable, which I get, tied for 2nd and 3rd place. ESPN U, and ESPN news, which I don't get, tied for fourth and fifth. Where was qualifying? Not on a broadcast channel. Not on a second or third string channel.
Bringing up how you used to get the races in the old days is a moot point at best. Back in the old days I would read every newspaper article I could find. I used to listen to the Indy 500 on the radio during the black out days, and I kept score on graph paper. Not the case today. The very fact that qualifying was on a 'goofy' channel proves it has fallen in stature.
How about the Cubs game? I don't know how many times I was watching a Bears game that was running late, and there was always a crawl on the bottom that told us what was going on. Or I was watching a Lions v Packets game that was running late like everyone else in Chicago, and there was a crawl about how the network was switching away. No crawl about the IndyCar race. Why? Cuz they didn't feel anyone cared.
Ladt week I noticed the California race was being rerun at night, so I recorded it and watched it later. I didn't even know there was a race that weekend. You can say I could have found out if I cared, but that's my point. Long time fans like me don't care. I'm not the only one. The stands were empty. That's not my fault, or the Cubs, or the weather. Yes, a race in Chicago, Milwaukee, or Elk Horn would be my fault.
Speaking of Milwaukee....that's what the post was about. No comments on that.
Why drive away a fan like me? That's my point.
