I missed you this week! What? You didn’t realize I was gone? Oh, well, there goes your last chance until April of entering Crocodile Bar and Cabanas knowing I won’t be there. Before we get to all the big news in the bar and grill universe, if I could, please allow me to indulge you with some personal news. I know you don’t get too much of a chance to get to know me in this space as I always focus like a laser beam on the business. I mentioned to my daughter Carmen, 15, that she should read last week’s comedy-gold episode. “Comedy gold?” she asked. “It was probably just another list of passive-aggressive comments about your adventures in the service industry.”
The secret construction project nears the finish line! For tonight (Friday) only, come take advantage of our internet specials. Before Bill Gates single-handedly decided to ruin the planet* by building a Four Seasons next door, he ran some fancy software company which would one day lead to Google, Facebook and Amazon ruling the world. We invite you on all occasions to take wonderful photos from our slice of paradise and tag Crocodile Bar and Cabanas on Google or Facebook. If you come by and take photos at 5 p.m. Friday, or even if you come and don’t take photos, we offer our “almost officially open” specials.
SPECIAL NO. 1: WINE
Mateo wonders does wine age well in a bottle if that bottle sits inside a beachside bar for the summer or in Mateo’s closet across from the kindergarten. Who knows? We’re getting a new batch for Sunday. For Friday night, name your price for limited remaining stock from the 2018-19 high season. If you like it and think it deserves the regular 60 pesos, great. If you think it deserves 30, fine. Either way, please tip Marcos and Dulce well because they work hard to keep the palapa clean.
SPECIAL NO. 2: MARGARITAS
Also only for Friday night, celebrate your refusal to drink last season’s wine with a tasty margarita. Buy three, get one free. If you show up by yourself or even if you come with a friend, invite someone else to your table to take advantage of the bulk offer. And take pictures of you and your friends enjoying these tasty drinks.
FISH TACOS RETURN
Is it possible the dorado tastes better this year than last? Did the fish swim into the wine cabinet? Who knows, but come enjoy three tacos with the awesome salsas for 100 pesos. You may order traditional, which are lightly sauteed, or “a la plancha” which means something about an iron and no batter in the process.
DAMN, THAT CHILI IS GOOD
I wonder if Dulce was born in Texas because she makes a mean chili. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by so far to enjoy it.
BREAKFAST BUFFET BACK!
If you prefer mimosas on Sunday mornings to margaritas on Friday evenings, or even if you just like bacon, our Special Sunday Breakfast Buffet (™) returns Sunday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Our daily breakfast buffet comes back Monday, Nov. 18. The daily buffet is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday costs 120 pesos and daily is 90 pesos. Repeat the mantra: There is a breakfast buffet, every day. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. If the weekly time change for Sundays is too confusing, come at 10 a.m. seven days a week and there will be a breakfast buffet on the beach.
ALMOST COMPLETELY OPEN
Please enjoy our specials on Friday evening and also feel free to stop by at 5 p.m. Saturday. Starting Sunday, Nov. 18, we will be open all day, every day. After the breakfast buffet, the kitchen/menu hours will be 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The bar hours will be 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. After soaking up the sunset with us, you will soon be able to enjoy the second season of Marcos and Dulce’s new nighttime bar, La Chora, as you cross the arroyo from Playa Blanca.
SPANISH CLASSES ARE HERE!
Spanish classes for beginning and intermediate students start Monday, Nov. 18. These drop-in classes are geared to students who would like to start or continue to practice speaking Spanish. You won’t have to learn where to place accents or where to place the upside-down question marks, but Mateo and Laura, of Cafe Du Calcetin, will help you learn to speak Spanish by conversing with you in Spanish. Que chido! Classes daily from 3 p.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. 100 pesos per class or 400 for the week.
SALAD BAR ALMOST HERE
Mark your calendar for Monday, Nov. 25. We’re getting a fancy new table and everything. You will be able to enjoy the salad bar from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., seven days a week. Fresh vegetables and all kinds of neat salad stuff. Fruit too. Vegetarians will delight, though we will feature a few meat products as well.
THANKSGIVING ON THE BEACH
Mateo loved welcoming such a wonderful group of friends last year and he would love to host again new friends and old. Despite all of Mateo’s silliness on this thread, he hopes you can enjoy a special meal with him, his girlfriend, and his family as we give thanks for the food and a chance to enjoy this slice of paradise. Please mark your calendar for Thursday, Nov. 28, and please make a reservation to dine with us. Menu details to come next week.

Don’t forget LSU is ranked No. 1 in American football for colleges. In other news, the sun sets in the west. Geaux Tigers!
