Let's try a little critical thinking on this.

i.e. Mom said her daughter said somebody said.
Why wouldn't Johns Hopkins University post this on their own?
Playing devil's advocate, perhaps they did (I can't find it) and it was
just this kind of inside source status that the information needed to go
viral on social media.
The point remains (and is the one I am trying to make) Inside source
status that is releasing information that is not verified is not
information, it is rumor.
