survived on their own for a very long time. When they depend on
each other it builds community strength and a sense of belonging, a
sense of being an integral part of the community.
I have read how the desire to help (feed the poor concerts etc) have
simply made the people they are trying to help become dependent on
that help vs helping them to help themselves. Wanting to help is
good, wanting to belong to the community is good but it has to be done in
the right way.
Sorry, no links, this is just my opinion (I could find some links if
it will help). These thoughts are kind of fresh in my mind as I just watched
the documentary Ancient Futures yesterday. Not exactly relevant but close.
