La Manzanilla message board
Re: Other ways we can help
Daniel the documentary is both beautiful and tragic and certainly hits home. The people of La Manzanilla are well beyond that stage. Because of dependence on tourist/outside money and goods, some residents have stopped being the, help thy neighbor, persons they once were. The breakdown in community that we see in the documentary has already happened here long ago. I don't think the message in the documentary applies at this moment in history. People in La Manz are not living off the land. They have to buy their most basic need, drinking water. I do agree that paying gas and/or electric bills or buying water is a great way to go. Going forward I hope they, as well as the rest of the world, slow down and start taking steps to be better prepared and more self sufficient. I agree that there has to be a shift in what the world deems valuable and the impact progress has on the earth. Ok I'm done, forgive my writing, it has never been my strong suit. I'm a dancer not a writer.
