knows I got my share of those
I look at the precautions in place for society in general, the mask
the distancing, sanitizer, the lockdown, on and on. Then I hear people saying
that it is fine to put all those on hold for a day or so and go
into the public and travel, including getting on a plane for a few
hours. It just doesn't jive for me, something is amiss.
That something is the economy. We are as dependent on air travel
to keep the economy going as we are on banks that are too big to fail.
In situations like that conformation bias becomes dominant, it
appears we have very little choice so it has to be ok. Also
people demand to travel, they want what they want and the fact
that it puts others at risk is put out of mind. We tell ourselves
that the number of people who will die from our collective actions
is so small that it doesn't matter.
This bias was happening before COVID and will continue to happen
once it is over but its disingenuous to pretend its not happening.
The risk is not zero.
The solution is to stay put for a year but we won't see that and
its ok, it kind of has to be?
