Always a priority to walk the beach when we arrive. It appears to me to be closer to the buildings foundations every Fall. The tipping point was when the governor had equipment mine the beach for thousands of cubic meters of rock and sand to make a parking lot at the lagoon outlet by Valentina's for his speech and toy (motorbikes, etc.) give away a few years back.
To exacerbate the problem we still have Restaurant owner's who use heavy equipment to remove rocks and sand every year to make the beach "pretty" in front of their business.
Our beach is a finite loop system which has been in place for countless centuries. Only mankind can f--k up nature so well. Every year the arroyo brings down a new crop of rocks and sand to replenish the beach. When the rainy starts our sand is pulled out into the bay where it waits for the Harvest Moon (change of season and currents) to return on shore. The balance is delicate and apparently does not tolerate mans tampering. Rocks are the foundation of the barrier sand bar on which our little pueblo is built. Hauling off rocks every year can only hurt an already worrisome situation.
Maybe the powers that be should take notice and correct old "bad" habits that diminish the foundation before we do look just like Barra.
Just my dos centavos, rojo
