Hi Susan and welcome to the community. I am previously from Victoria and there are many, many of us from BC and the surrounds ~ and we are all about the same age! Whether from BC or not, you will find lots of people with musical backgrounds, and those who enjoy the music so you won’t be lonely. Keep watching the message board for announcements like Palapa Joe and his open mike night (just as an example and by far not the only one) and you will be surrounded by like-minded people quickly.
