Gerardo knows so much about not only the wildlife but also the bay and La Manzanilla and the greater area - and you have hours to ask him questions.
The slow circumnavigation of the bay with Martin, a former fisherman and expert boatman as our captain, was a wonderful experience in and of itself.
We got a close look at (and much information on the history and status of) the new Tamarindo resort and all other resorts/boats/buildings on the bay, and we visited all of the many magnificent rock formations (very photogenic).
I thought it unlikely we would see whales, but we saw them 3-4 times - at least one mother/calf pair and possibly some males. We also saw many tortugas.
We had a relaxing snorkel at Tenacatita along with a lunch of delicious Mi Casita tortas.
We then slowly made our way back to La Manzanilla, passing the sailboat cluster and the nude beach (deserted!).
La Manzanilla is lovely when seen from the sea - a completely different perspective (and great photo op).
Many thanks to Gerardo and Martin for such a gorgeous, leisurely, and informative tour and snorkel.
