Karen and I were so saddened to hear the news of Daniel's passing. We will raise a glass of Centenario Reposado at 5 pm tonight, here in Edmonton, Alberta. I will also have a sip of a very old, better tasting {for those who know the story} bottle of Corralejo to remember the old, good times on the beach.

Daniel was one of the first people in La Manzanilla that I met, through my brother. He taught me important things in life, like 'how to properly stack a case of Victoria in a mini fridge' so the bottles wouldn't tumble out if one was removed for consumption! We often sat and chatted hours away, sipping beer and discussing topics from A to Z while he worked away on his computer. The next year I presented him with a 'SIR VEZA' sign which he proudly displayed on his desk in the years since.

Over the past almost 2 decades we spent many late afternoons and early evenings with Daniel and friends, tossing frisbees, watching the waves, clouds, and people as the sun slowly set in the west. While waiting for the often elusive 'green flash' as the sun finally disappeared below the horizon, our interesting discussions and debates with people from near and far often lasted into the deep darkness. Then we would gather and return chairs and shot glasses, knowing we would return soon for another sunset together. Your message board and the web cam kept us all informed of the happenings around town, and let us be near even when we were far away. What a wonderful gift you gave us. Alas, it will not be the same again on the beach in La Manzanilla.

You will be missed bro. You were always welcoming and good to us, and those around you. On our return in December and on future days, we will gather in front of your place for sunset tequilas and remember all the good times past awhile also dreaming about the great times ahead.
