The spam wars continue…and a long post ahead…

I’m sure many have noticed the increase in replies to posts that are completely irrelevant and usually contain a link to some nefarious website. Obviously no one should follow these links and we wish we had a way to stop them from posting in the first place.

Well, we do have a way, and that is to start a new message board that requires someone to be “logged in” before posting, and it will allow me to delete the garbage if it still makes it through.

A couple hurdles to overcome.

1. The current board will live on because I haven’t yet been successful in getting the hosting company to reply to requests to gain access. The good news is you could still go to the old site and search for prior posts, the bad news is it will create confusion having two message boards going at the same time. The old one will probably run out by next November as far as I can tell.

2. The replacement board I have been testing isn’t allowing pictures to be posted easily. I think this is a deal breaker so I’m looking for a different format that is more photo friendly but still allows better control over spam.

So tell me what you think. Forge ahead and start a new board (that’s photo friendly) even with the old one running? Wait until the old one expires and ignore the spam in the meantime? Please vote/comment on this thread.
