The story of the Stamp. |
January 2019 I had arrived via PV on my way to La Manz for a quick week. At PV airport I saw all those signs to present your permanent residency card on arrival through customs. I deliberated as I was only going to be in MX for less than a week. Circumstances were that I would probably not return to MX much more in the future. But I obeyed the sign and presented my PR card.
To return, arrived at the PV airport to take my west jet flight back to Canada well before the two hour departure. Realizing that I had entered MX with my permanent residency card, I had to go to immigration to get the Stamp.
The airport PV immigration office was not open at 9:00 am. My flight was to leave at 10:00 am. I waited in front of the kiosk for the last possible minute to get my stamp. I returned to the WestJet counter to explain my situation as they could not issue me a bording pass without the ĎStampí.
Finally the immigration gentleman showed up and proceeded to attempt to stamp my paper. Unfortunately after a 5 minute search, he realized that he had no Stamp... he indicated to me that he would return in 10 minutes, with the Stamp. So now I am in a state of anxiety, my plane is due to leave within one half an hour... I go back to the Wes jet counter and explain my Delima.
The counter person said ĎI will issue your boarding pass, I trust you to get the StampĒ. One last check, the immigration kiosk was still closed.
In pure anxiety at this point, I made my way through the airport to customs, (a 20 minute hike) arriving at the departure gate moments before the plane was to leave. I gave them my CND passport and ticket but they would not allow me to get on the flight because my boarding pass did not have the Stamp.
I realized at this point that they are not going to let me on the plane! I try to explain about the closed imagination kiosk, and that it was most important for me to make this return flight. There was quite a confrontation and at one point I told the attendant that I didnít want my PR card anymore and take it away. She was upset as well, saying she would loose her job if she let me on the plane without the Stamp... At the last possible minute a nice young official arrived at the departure gate and with a smile, Stamped my boarding pass. Thankfully I was able to make my return flight to Canada.
I hope the counter check woman kept her job.
And thatís the end of the story as we know it!
Itís Mexico, you never know.
