Mandatory 14-day quarantine or isolation
Everyone entering Canada must follow mandatory isolation or quarantine requirements.
Testing is now required for people flying into Canada
Effective midnight on January 7, 2021, all travellers five years of age or older must provide proof of a negative laboratory test result for COVID-19 to the airline prior to boarding from another country to Canada. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or a Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) test and must be taken within 72 hours prior to traveller’s scheduled departure to Canada. Travellers departing from the Caribbean or South America can use tests conducted within 96 hours of departure (instead of 72 hours) until January 14, 2021. This also applies to Mexico. All travellers going to Canada must present this information at the time of boarding. Failure to do so will mean an automatic denial of boarding by the airline operating the flight to Canada.
Evidence – elements
Evidence of a negative result for a COVID-19 molecular test must include:
• The person’s name and date of birth; • The name and clinic address of the laboratory that administered the test; • The date the specimen was collected and the test method used; and • The test results.
Travellers with planned flights to Canada are strongly encouraged to take note of this information, in order to be compliant with the requirements, and to avoid being refused boarding by the airline.
It has been reported on the news this AM that serveral passengers returning to Canada both from Mexico and Europe have been not allowed to board their returning flights because they have not the correct documentation/test results as required by the new traveling regulations.
Apart from the obvious risks of travelling to La Manz this winter and the reports on the message board of most locals ignoring any protocols, this latest regulation of having to have a negative Covid test on top of a 2 week quarantine was enough to push us over the edge and stay home. We are not happy about the decision but it is the right one. La Manz will be there next year and we are already booked!
