We spent our last session discussing the subtleties of Mexican adverbs such as: |
"a lo loco" o "con locura" (in English, just any old way, free style, without thinking about it)
"de jalón" (all at once, like how you would take a bitter medicine)
"al aventón" (to get a ride with someone...
to do something in a hurry, not thoroughly..)
I mentioned the saying in English, “I just gave it a lick and a promise” which means I cleaned the room, but barely...it was interesting that many English speaking people had never heard this one!)
Here are some others you can look up in your translator:
"con pinzas" o "con pincitas"
"llevarse del chongo"
"de la patada"
"con las patas"
"sin ton ni son"
It was really fun, hearing how our neighbors, Alicia, Sandra, Lorena, and Coco use these colorful expressions in their everyday life. The next best thing to total immersion!
