Stolen Car Posted by LisaFern on October 6, 2022, 5:56 pm It looks like my car has been stolen from the carwash here in La Manzanilla. Happened about 2 hours ago. It's a blue VW Jetta Wagon, 2002. Are the keys missing along with the car or did someone hotwire it? Just wondering if anyone was looking after the car while it was there.

My car is back home Posted by LisaFern on October 9, 2022, 8:51 pm, in reply to "Stolen Car" After a long, exhausting, and sometimes humorous 2 day saga I have retrieved my car, Lil Kitten, from some evildoers in Guadalajara. She suffered mistreatment and is in need of further repairs. There were lots of twists and turns on the way - it was truly a telenovela. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern. A extra thanks to those who reached out to me personally, and to the generous kind people who were physically with me through this intense experience. I am now officially wiped out and so will make this brief. I don't see the need to recount the whole story publicly on FB or anywhere else. I hope everyone understands. I'm very grateful to be home with the car, although the weather was sure nice in Guadalajara!

Lisa did report it stolen on the message board so let's hear some details. Just an idea of how it left the car wash so maybe other people do not have the same problem if possible.

more info on stolen car Posted by LisaFern on October 11, 2022, 12:43 pm, in reply to "My car is back home" hello all When I posted photos of car on FB and here I was thinking that getting the word out might help locate the car. It turns out that it was known almost immediately who took the car, and the likelihood of where he was headed. A police report was promptly filed by a friend. Several people saw the car wash worker leave in my car. He has family here and in Guadalajara. At some point a family member came in possession of the car and keys in Guadalajara. He notified the local police. I was notified by my friend that the car had been found. (I had a strong sense from the beginning that it would be found). Retrieving the car from Guadalajara was quite difficult for many reasons. The police assisted me in moving the car to a safer location, but unfortunately it had some damage. With help I was able to bring it to a competent mechanic who checked it out (on a Sunday) and made it safe enough for the long drive back. The car will need further repairs and a new catalytic converter as the original was stolen. I think this was truly a "one off" as stealing a car is very rare, especially in a small town like ours. I hope these details satisfy everyone's curiosity. As I said, it made for a good story, like a telenovela, so maybe I will write it all down someday! The person who found the keys was able to locate the car and I don't think the car was ever found again by the owner! So glad you got your car back Lisa!

I am just happy you got that car back. I know too many that never saw the vehicle again. Generally the outcome is that is gone gone gone. So lucky you are.

Also Catalytic converters are a treasure, a friend had it stolen off a camper in CA. Months to find a replacement.
