Basket ball court, soccer and pickle ball. Posted by Guillermo Garcia on November 28, 2022, 10:27 am I saw Narda ( the representative of La Manzanilla en La Huerta)and volunteers cleaning the area around the court. She told me that La Huerta is planning to restore the court, fence and basket ball hoops. The proposed budget is 800,000 pesos. She told me that the problem has always been maintenance because of lack of a fund for this purpose. I know that some pickle ball players have voiced an interest in helping restore the court. I was wondering if anybody has an interest and ideas of how to create a fund dedicated exclusively for this purpose. The Regidora(representative) would be in charge of administering the fund. It is in our interest due to the possibility of injuries due to the damaged surface. ALL YOUR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!

Hi Guillermo, I would be happy to help in some capacity but afraid my limited Spanish would not be enough to be “in charge”. I could assist with taking donations from the expat community or getting quotes for work (I have the name of the company that did the courts in Barra de Navidad as a start). Last year the head of the pickle players wrote me saying they were restoring the basketball court for their purposes so you might want to chat with them first and see what monies they have towards the project! Otra Vez is working with Narda as well to establish a small childrens playground at the end of the park..a space has already been cleared! The bookstore is always happy to make a jar for contributions to help with any project as well! So let me know what you decide to do!

The donation jars for all various giving are located at Helping Hands Bookstore…not Otra Vez! Just for everyone’s knowledge! I think Judy Taylor is the lead for pickle ball..that is who wrote and told me they were resurfacing last April!

We have been collecting money for people to play on the court from the beginning. We were thinking we had to raise money to resurface the court but that is wonderful that La Huerta is funding money to fix the whole court up. I need to speak to the core group that has been making pickle ball possible in La Manzanilla. We have significant money saved and I think they will be in favour of having it go towards maintenance of the court. We will continue to ask for people to pay for the season or one session at a time so money will continue to come in for maintenance.
