We will probably get some rain but not much else. Boca surf report is showing big waves starting tomorrow, its little graphic also shows the hurricane coming much close than Ventusky or NOAA.
No wave action here yet, but I do see some big stuff hitting Islote Las Parajos and Punta Hermanos out in the bay. There are times I have seen the waves splash up as high as the island itself. Another sign of big waves is when the horizon becomes wavy.
Checked early morning, all the warnings are gone with the exception of Friday morning. Fisher persons moved their boats off the beach but there are still lots of umbrellas and tables on the beach.
Using Ventusky on the wave setting shows 25 foot waves by the eye down to 7.7 for us. Not sure what that 7.7 translates to, I don't use the wave setting as much as I should, considering I am on the beach.
Edit - Using the help section of Ventusky on waves it says the following
"Waves The application displays two types of waves: swells and wind waves. Waves travelling outside of their place of origin, and are thus not caused by local winds, are called swells. Waves caused by winds in that specific location are called wind waves. In the application, wind waves are marked in white and swells are marked in black. This feature allows you to quickly find areas where high wind waves are travelling in a different direction from the swells. Significant wave height is the average height (trough to crest) of the one-third highest waves. Given the variability of wave height, the largest individual waves are likely to be somewhat less than twice the reported significant wave height for a particular day. Wave period is time interval between arrival of consecutive crests at a stationary point."
TLDR - Waiting for AI to bring some usable data to the weather situation.
This post is a little early (slim possibility it could be wrong) but another feather in the hat of Boca Surf report, it comes through first (again) with the latest and correct update.
Without that report all we have is NOAA which gave zero relevant and up to date information as to what was going to happen in our little world. Using NOAA we would still be expecting huge waves from the latest update from NOAA "12H 19/0600Z 20.3N 113.2W 115 KT 130 MPH" which says in 12 hours Hillary will be directly off the coast (20 degrees) at 130 mph winds.
Ventusky is a little more relevant in that you can at least get some data to help you guess, but it is lacking in the kind of tangible information that Boca Surf report gives.
Problem is Boca faces South and we here in La Manz face West, so even though it is only a few miles away it is a world of difference in the direction the beach faces. Last hurricane I wrote to Boca Surf report (for the third time) asking about their sources for weather prediction, the only response I got was "thanks for contacting us, have a nice day" Arghhh, probably a weather nerd / recluse compiling their own prediction (correctly) from a number of sources.....
Anyway, to sum it up we jumped the shark again (beware the rogue wave) onward through the fog, life is good.
