Calling Local artists Posted by Kevin L on September 27, 2023, 1:28 pm Hello everyone, I am organizing a Sunday Dec 10th Artshow in the football/soccer field. I would like to invite ALL La Manzanilla artists! It's my first time organiazing an art show, so I would like to keep it simple for the artists, the guests and me. :} If you would like to present your art or craftwork, or get more details, contact me directly at dabigbookoo@yahoo.com Also, if you know of artists in the suurounding area, please reach out and invite them. I am hoping for 20 or more artists. Mark your calendars, spread the word and come support. Thanks all.

I am putting together a different type of event that includes ALL artists. Furniture makers, Ceramics, Jewelry, painters, sculptors, basically all handmade artistry. Think of it as a art/craft Bizarre. Would love to have you join if interested whether you are an artist or a guest.

The first show will likely be held beginning of December. In my opinion, the football field wouldn’t be a very practical venue as it is at the far end of town which means a long walk for those without transport. Plus there’s very little shade…….

Gallery 10 has been operating for all local artists, including Mexicans, experts, and guests for several years. Susan has provided us with a unique space and takes commission to keep it maintained. Kindly join forces rather than split. We would welcome your help with the rest of us volunteers to promote local artist.

I would love to be invovled with Gallery #10 and hope when the time comes I can also show my art. As an artist, I feel the oppurtinty to present your creativity should never be passed up. If people don't see it, they dont buy it. Many artists show their work every weekend at many art shows. Just think of this as another oppurtunity for artists to sell thier art. There will be no commission charged on the art sales. I am simply asking for 100 pesos per artist. This money will go to cleaning the fields prior to, during and after the event. It will also go to maintaining the bathrooms and sink area throughout the day. The rest will go to the live music. I am basically doing this for free and doing my best to keep it as affordable as possible for the artists. In addition to music, I am arranging for local street food and drink vendors. So in your own words, kindly join forces. I will do what I can to support Gallery #10 and maybe you can do what you can to support my event. Is this something you would be interested in?

I might point out that I was part of the team that organized the Fiesta del Arte pop up event in the jardin some years back. It was a successful event, a great, accessible location, but one flaw - there was the issue of lack of shade for all. So I’m talking from experience and thought I would share my views!

Yes, I am aware of Gallery #10 and I hope someone will invite me to show my art. Smiley Face! I feel only a small % of people wont make the walk. I do feel a much larger % will. It's less than 10 min for an average person. On the East side of the field is where the artists will set up. Lots of trees there. They are now covered in leaves and natural shade. However, in December, I'm not counting on that. So I intend to use the trees as supports to hang sun shades. Those with their own popups will be placed accordingly. It would be great to have you present your art Mazinka. Everything I have seen is beautiful.

Scott and I have lived in boca for 14 years, are working artists and not part of “the club”. He shows at the only local gallery of any importance but my work does not fit any criteria there. We both love and respect all that Abigail is doing but clearly there needs to be a fresh new alternative to the other places. We arrive in mid November. Kevin, I think it is great that you have thought of yet another great venue for arts and crafts and I wish you best of luck in your endeavor. I looked up how many categories of art there is, under the umbrella of arts and crafts - 24 of them!!! Which to me, could mean, that there is a real need for more art venues in our Pueblo. And having a spacious location, like the soccer field, would ensure every artist has room to display their art. I like the fact that anyone who considers themselves to be an artist get to show their art, without any type of screening process beforehand. And all aesthetes can come and enjoy. I do agree that there is little shade at the soccer field. I have a few table umbrellas I can bring. And maybe one can rent those large venue tents somewhere. Just some ideas. I thought of another location, that might be available, and accessible - I think it used to be called The Casino - diagonally right in front of the OXXO. It is rather large but also there, shade must be brought in. It is a very convenient location, accessible to all basically. Well, just my two cents, this beautiful, cloudy Sunday in our Paraíso. LOL. As for the Casino..it has fallen in disrepair for the past few years and is dangerous! I proposed to the Ejido to help pay to tear it down several months ago, funds from Otra Vez, and they liked the idea…and turn it into a beach parking lot and make some money and have two jobs available….and will contact them again soon! Would help mitigate traffic problems as well! Sorry Kevin..but had to plug this solution!

The ' main entrance side has 4 shading trees or more. Two in the middle kinda bunched into one shade drop. To the left of the entrance by the " corner kick" spot, there's a beast of a tree there too. Issues in all of this are the whens of morn midday afternoon. Angling; light sneaks in and makes, well, makes uts own rules? Bigger: a solid harvest and clean up. Where are those omnivoracious goat herds when ya need em?! Haha. They're out there. Maybe a little burn too. Across from the main gate with kiosk and arch is the behemoth, roots writhing and all, plus some... Well... There's...lots of shade?? Spots for 20 i am sure, i wager. Is puppetry a craft? Live art in this too? With a solid dedicated team,rakes machetes, scythers snippers shovels wheelbarrows n gumption Even an excuse for fun Should be easy no? Here's hoping Thanks Kevin for guiding this into Reality. ( casino parking lot a MUST)
