They are calling it the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in Mexico, and a record for the shorted time to go from Tropical Storm to Cat5 hurricane. This is what Aljazeera is reporting: "The government said that it had activated an emergency plan to bring essential supplies. The military was distributing 100,000 food packages and 800,000 litres of water, with more supplies on the way, a statement said." Additionally, there are multiple photos of the destruction on this and other news services. It may be observed that this is a drop in the bucket, but, also to be noted, there was no warning that this storm was going to ramp up the way it did. In the meantime, the horrors are, for many of us, incomprehensible.

The region was completely smashed by a Cat 5 hurricane and it took out 80% of the power infrastructure for Guererro (according to a report on the BBC), there was a complete blackout because there was no way for people to get the information out. There were no reported deaths until yesterday when some power was restored in areas and now the reports are coming out. Proteccion Civil (a government agency) has been publishing lots of photos and reports and shelter lists to get the information out there.

Re: Otis Posted by Lynne on October 27, 2023, 2:29 pm, in reply to "Re: Otis" This guy sounds like a crackpot to me . . . or a conspiracy theorist who never heard about Hurricane Patricia eight years and two days before this latest CAT 5 hit the Pacific coast. Civil Protection was here the entire time; the army cleared Ruta 200 as soon as it could and brought in supplies; CFE worked around the clock to restore power. These are all government agencies. He must be confusing the destruction of communication infrastructure with government censorship.
