Thursday, December 21, 2023 marks the day of the Winter Solstice, a special moment of the annual cycle of the year. Here, in the northern hemisphere, solstice marks the longest night and the shortest day.
Historically, this was the day that the rationing of winter reserves between harvests occured. It was immensely important to our ancestors because communities were not certain of living through the winter.
Today, in our world, we too are facing a time of uncertain survival as we watch the endless parade of senseless wars, the depravation that mankind is capable of, the destruction of our planet through greed and selfishness.
To help us cope, we call upon the wisdom of the ancients and we remember to ignite the flame of hope that lies within each of us.
Winter Solstice is a time to celebrate with our "tribe" the return of the light and its victory over darkness and know that the light will return.
Michael and Myranda are hosting their annual "Winter Solstice Ceremony and Potluck" at their home - 159 Maria Ascunsion. Please arrive by 5:30 pm, ceremony will commence promptly at 6:00 pm with potluck to follow at 7:00 pm (ish). Bring your drums and rattles, some food to share, yourself and your friends.
