Texas softball players from the 1980's and early '90s may remember Clement Glenn.

He was a big, left-handed power hitter from Navasota. He made a big splash as the first-baseman for the 76ers, which was a dominant team around Houston, Waller, Hempstead, Brookshire and Bryan-College Station. He later played on such teams as Miller Lite, The Xpress and Navasota Bud.

In his professional life, Dr. Clement Glenn was a distinguished professor, administrator and alumni of Prairie View A&M University. He was a mentor to many students and an active leader for the youth of his community.

He also ran for Governor of Texas in 2010.

My friend Dr. Clement Glenn passed away last Friday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He was 59 years old.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, August 21, from 5-8 p.m. at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at Brosig Auditorium located at 100 Brosig at Washington Ave. in Navasota. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery.
