We bat 11 at all times and carry some subs on the roster. Your 11th guy should be very versatile and able to be put on the field at any position you may need to address if somebody is struggling (utility player). The big benefit of this is that it allows you to have 11 strong hitting guys, and if somebody is struggling on D then you don't have to remove him from the lineup and lose the stick.
